The All Party Parliamentary Regeneration Group was formed in 2001 with the aim of helping parliamentarians to better contribute to debates in Westminster and beyond, about improving the prospects of our poorest communities.
It seeks to do this by helping members identify and share good practice both from their own constituencies and the wider regeneration sector - with each other and with Government.
“To promote community-led regeneration, linking practical experience to policy development and encouraging ‘joined up’ thinking between Government, business and the voluntary sector.”
Attempts to improve the quality of life in deprived communities have been a constant feature of Government policy for many years. Never before, however, has so much attention been paid to finding out ‘what works’ and to making sure that solutions are community-led and ‘joined up’.
Regeneration is a thread that links together major areas of policy from housing, public space and the environment to health inequality, unemployment and fear of crime.
It is at the heart of major political initiatives from welfare to work to neighbourhood renewal and is at the core of the Sustainable Communities agenda.
