About the Group

Turning round the fortunes of disadvantaged neighbourhoods is one of the most challenging public policy issues. The need for effective regeneration strategies is recognised across the political spectrum, and is particularly pressing at a time of recession when some of these communities may fall even further behind.

The All Party Parliamentary Regeneration Group (APPRG) was formed in 2001 with the aim of helping parliamentarians to better contribute to debates in Westminster and beyond, about improving the prospects of our poorest communities.

It seeks to do this by helping members identify and share good practice both from their own constituencies and the wider regeneration sector - with each other and with Government.

The APPRG is an independent cross-Party Group and is registered on the official All Party Parliamentary Group register.

The Group’s purpose is :

“To promote community-led regeneration, linking practical experience to policy development and encouraging ‘joined up’ thinking between Government, business and the voluntary sector.”

Secretariat

Environment and regeneration charity Groundwork provides the secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Regeneration Group.  The Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) supports Groundwork with this work on a voluntary basis by developing the Group’s agenda and providing briefing materials.
